TAKE ACTION to Oppose age verification in Washington state (1/4)
If you're a Washington resident, sign in OTHER or CON to the SB 5708 hearing by 12:30 pm Wednesday February 26.
https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=senate&mId=32889&aId=164992&caId=26200&tId=3
See the rest of this thread for a discussio of whether it's better to sign in CON or OTHER, as well ass instructions how to sign in.
UPDATE: there's also a signin for the "companion bill", see https://pnw.zone/@waprivacy/114071665539993726

Why consider signing in OTHER as opposed to CON? For one thing, there's some good stuff in the bill - for example, it limits the collection and use of minors' personal data and precise location information, profiling, and using dark patterns. So if they removed age verification (and fixed some other problems), it might be okay.
But also ... Conservative Ladies of WA is signing in CON, and we don't know what they're up to-- they may press to introduce even more anti-LGBTQ language.... (2/4)

So from a tactical perspective, signing in OTHER doesn't risk adding to their support.
Then again, the bill as written is really bad. So there's also an argument for signing in CON.

And if you're not sure why age verification is so bad ... as well as the obvious privay issues (what happens to the data being used for age verification? even though the bill has safeguards, the Trump administration will still be able to get at it), it's anti-LGBTQIA2S+
Here's an article that just came out today on how Age-Verification Laws Seek to Erase LGBTQ+ Identity from the Internet
