Yep. The section on "The Fediverse as an Ongoing Critique of Openness" in Seven Theses On The Fediverse And The Becoming Of Floss looks at the tension between fedi's approaches and "openness". It's a great example of Christina Dunbar-Harris' point in Hacking Diversity that the "interpretations and norms of openness on which open source rests" often run counter to the goal of providing more safety.
