@brayd quite a few instances have limited fosstodon for a while. But, that's generally not a good solution in situations where the admins and moderation team aren't trusted. So, a lot of instances are posting variations of "limiting now, intending to defederate in a week unless it gets resolved" (or two weeks or whatever).

@thenexusofprivacy yes, I think that’s a good solution. I just posted it because I saw it in several occasions (not just with fosstodon), that some admins are very fast with defederating. So the last resort is their first resort. At the end of the day it’s always the instances decision, but I also feel like especially some smaller instances don’t know the potential impact of just defederating for a single minute.

@brayd yeah, the inabiity to undo defederation -- and the way people don't get notified -- certainly means it's a big impact. My impression is that instances that have been around for a while generally do understand how big the impact is, especially when it's larger instances getting defederated ... but, hard to know, and of course there are so many instances around that there are always plenty of exceptions!
