@deadsuperhero@social.wedistribute.org It introduced us to Circles which Diaspora* stole and made "Aspects".

@gme Actually DIaspora's Aspects were before Google+'s Circles. Google claims they came up with them independently, maybe so, but if there was any stealing involved it was by Google not Diaspora.
And @deadsuperhero while I agree in general that it's not enough to recreate another service, there are exceptions. Google+ was on track to a big success until the nymwars he momentum of their launch and alienated a key chunk of early users; "No ads" and "we're not Facebook" were both killer-enough features. https://xkcd.com/918/
Threads is another example. The thing is, though, both of these are from huge companies that have all kinds of advantages, so it's not a strategy that's likely to work for smaller fediverse projects.

@thenexusofprivacy @gme @deadsuperhero It really was a neat service. But never got the backing from the higher ups at Google!

I stand corrected. I guess my memory isn't what is used to be. I recall supporting the Diaspora project/ kickstarter while it was being developed while I was already on Google+. Guess I remembered wrong. -
