Alright everyone on #fosstodon, LISTEN UP. @kev and @mike are (presumably) quitting. They've set up an amazing place and built it out into a real community.
Now the question is.. what do we do? I'd really like this server to keep existing. Is anyone interested in continuing Fosstodon with me?

@Gina @kev @mike Seeing the various announcements by other instances to defederate, I fear it is a lost cause. It doesn’t really matter if the defederation is an overreaction or not, IMHO, the damage is done. People are migrating away. The brand is damaged, unfortunately. But the strength of the fediverse is that names are ephemeral. So, IMHO, shrug and create a successor with a new name instead of trying to keep alive what most likely is burned.

@jwildeboer @kev @mike nah I disagree. I'm not okay with a massive community getting ruined due to a few mistakes.
As we say in Dutch: trust comes on foot and leaves on horseback. We might be walking a while but trust can be regained.

I agree. Names can be reclaimed; or, once the community regroups and charts a different path they can continue under a different name if it turns out that makes more sense. In any case, getting the people from the community who want to move forward together is a great first step. It might or might not work, but certainly worth a try!
